Four-Year Pathway
General Course(Degree courses in Japanese)
The Faculty does not enroll students by course or field of specialization, but rather enrolls them as a batch of undergraduates and assigns them to their respective courses at the start of the second semester of the second year, one and a half years after their enrollment. During the first year and a half after admission, new students to the Faculty of Agriculture are required to take "KIKAN education" and "lower division education courses" to absorb the basic knowledge and concepts of agriculture as an advanced science, and to understand their aptitude and the content of research and education in the Faculty of Agriculture with regard to which career path they should choose in the field of agriculture in the broad sense of the term. After course assignments are made at the beginning of the second semester of the second year, students receive research education in specialized educational programs according to the curriculum of the course to which they are assigned. In the fourth year, students are assigned to a laboratory where they learn about theories and research methods in more specialized fields through conducting actual research, and then presenting their thesis before graduation.
*Because each course has a fixed number of students, students may be assigned to a course they do not wish to take depending on their grade ranking in their studies.
*Students will be assigned to a field of study at the beginning of the first semester of junior year, in the same way as students are assigned to a course. However, there are some courses in which the field of study is determined at the time of course assignment.
IUP(Degree courses in English)
IUP students enter the university in October at the start of the autumn quarter. All students study required subjects and then select from elective courses to build the course credits required for graduation.
Initially, all students study a common liberal arts course with introductions to topics in both the social and natural sciences in the first year. General education is a feature of Japanese Universities and ensures that all students receive a broad-based general education before starting their more specialized studies. From the 2nd year, students enter the specialized course, and when they become 3rd year students, they explore research laboratories they are interested in during laboratory rotation classes and decide on their research fields. 4th year students join a research laboratory to carry out their own research project and present the results of their research project as a graduation thesis before graduation.
