Doctoral Degree Conferral Criteria

*This completion criterion will apply to students who enroll in or after 2019 for the Doctoral Course, and to students who submit their thesis in or after 2019 for the Doctoral Dissertation.

Graduate School of
Bioresource and
Bioenvironmental Sciences
The requirements for completion of the doctoral program are based on Article 13 of the "Regulations of the Graduate School of Bioresource and Environmental Studies, Kyushu University". For those who meet the eligibility requirements for each major, the results of the thesis review and final examination by three to four examiners approved by the faculty council of the graduate school are used to review and certify completion of the program by the faculty of the major and the faculty council of the graduate school.
Bioresource Sciences (Agrobiological Sciences)
In the examination of doctoral dissertations, for Kou, a candidate for a doctoral degree must have published at least one work as the first author in a refereed academic journal. Otsu requires at least five publications in refereed journals (at least three as the first author) or equivalent.
(Animal and Marine Biosciences)
In the examination of doctoral dissertations, for Kou, a candidate for a doctoral degree must have published at least one work as the first author in a peer-reviewed academic journal. Otsu requires five or more publications (three or more as the first author) in academic journals, including refereed international journals, or equivalent.
Agro-environmental Sciences (Forest Environmental Sciences)
In the examination of doctoral dissertations, for Kou, a doctoral student must submit two or more papers as the first author in peer-reviewed journals. Otsu requires five or more publications as the first author in peer-reviewed journals.
(Bioproduction Environmental Sciences)
In the examination of doctoral dissertations, for Kou, a candidate for the doctoral degree must submit at least one work as the first author in a peer-reviewed academic journal. Otsu requires three or more publications as the first author in peer-reviewed journals.
(Sustainable Bioresources Science)
In the examination of doctoral dissertations, for Kou, a candidate for the doctoral degree must submit two or more papers as the first author in peer-reviewed journals. Otsu requires five or more publications as the first author in peer-reviewed journals.
Agricultural and Resource Economics In the examination of doctoral dissertations, for Kou, a doctoral student must have at least two publications as the first author in an academic journal or at least one publication as the first author in a peer-reviewed academic journal. Otsu requires five or more publications as the first author in peer-reviewed journals.
Bioscience and Biotechnology For the doctoral dissertation examination, for Kou, the doctoral candidate must have published at least one work as the first author in a peer-reviewed journal or have the work accepted for publication. Otsu requires at least five publications (at least three as the first author) in refereed journals or acceptance for publication.

Qualifications for Doctoral Degree Application

In addition, two credits of special laboratory courses must be obtained out of the 16 credits required for completion of the doctoral program.
Agro-environmental Sciences When submitting a doctoral dissertation, each educational course must confirm the achievements, thesis content, and examiners, and obtain their prior approval. In addition, a doctoral student must obtain a total of 6 credits (2 credits from special experimental courses and 4 credits from elective courses) out of the 16 credits required for completion of the program.
Agricultural and Resource Economics When submitting a doctoral dissertation, the department will confirm the achievements, content of the dissertation, and examiners, and obtain their prior approval. In addition, the Kou must obtain a total of 6 credits (2 credits from special practical training courses and 4 credits from elective required courses) out of the 16 credits required for completion of the doctoral program.
