[Topics] Associate Professor KAZAMA Tomohiko has been awarded the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award!
Associate Professor KAZAMA Tomohiko from the Department of Life Function Science, along with Professor ARIMURA Shinichi and Specially Appointed Assistant Professor NAKAZATO Issei from the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Tokyo, have jointly received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award (Science and Technology Prize, Research Division) for the fiscal year 2025.
The awarded topic is "Genome Editing Technology and Development Research of Plant Mitochondria and Chloroplasts."
This prize is awarded to individuals or groups who have conducted original research or inventions that have a high potential to contribute to the advancement of science and technology in Japan.
Expected Effects of This Research
By utilizing this technology, it is expected that the elucidation of the functions of genes encoded in plant mitochondrial genomes and chloroplast genomes, as well as the application of these genome modifications to crop breeding, will accelerate.
