Outline Activities

〇Research Projects
1. Asian Microbiome Project: Study on correlation among diet, gut microbiota, and health of Asian people
2. Chemical communication in gastro-intestinal microbial community
3. Development of antipathogenic agents targeting quorum sensing of Gram-positive pathogens
4. Study on microbial community structure of Asian traditional fermented foods, such as fermented rice bran "Nukadoko" as Japanese traditional slow food and fermented mare milk as Mongolian traditional healthy food.
5. Studies on bacteriocins produced by lactic acid bacteria

Message

Gut microbiota consisting of a thousand species has a great impact on our health by supplying a variety of metabolites fermentatively produced from daily foods. Because Asia is rich in unique and high quality of food cultures, gut microbiota of Asians has attracted interests in terms of their health benefit through shaping gut microbiota. However, recent globalization of dietary cultures forces us to change daily foods, which may remodel Asian gut microbiota. Thus, I am now carefully monitoring gut microbiota of Asians in collaboration with Asian scientists and looking into the impact of changing microbiota on our health.
