Profile

Outline Activities

We aim to clarify the relationship between phenotypes and gene functions in organisms ranging from microorganisms to plants and animals by bioinformatics approaches. Currently, genome and gene sequences of various kinds of organisms have been determined, however there still remain many genes that are important to organisms and genes whose functions are unknown. To understand the life phenomenon, it is important to clarify functions of genes in more detail. So far, various omics data such as genome, transcriptome, and metabolome have been obtained and published in databases. Therefore we are conducting research to identify functionally important genes and genes with unknown functions by using a huge amount of genome information and knowledge discovery techniques to find out useful genes. We also conduct research to clarify relationships between genotype and phenotype of organisms by determining genome and translated gene sequences using experimental data. The following four major themes are being conducted on various kinds of organisms.
(1)Exploration of useful genes by integrating information of gene functions based on omics data
(2)Elucidation of the relationship between nucleotide mutations on genome sequence among individuals and phenotypes
(3)Elucidation of mechanisms of gene regulation based on genome-wide transcripts and gene functions
(4)Elucidation of genome and gene structures by determining genome sequences
