Profile

Outline Activities

Proteins are indispensable molecules that play various roles in life. Therefore, in recent years, there have been active attempts to effectively utilize proteins derived from living organisms, especially in the field of biopharmaceuticals. We use the silkworm as a production factory for recombinant proteins, and conduct research on molecular design for highly efficient production of useful proteins, molecular breeding of silkworms, and functional modification of produced proteins.

Message

Silkworms have contributed to human industry as useful insects indispensable for silk production, and today they are attracting renewed attention as protein-producing hosts. We believe that the silkworm, which can increase its body weight 10,000-fold in less than a month, has unknown potential as a useful insect. While making the most of these fascinating abilities of insects, we hope to output useful substances that can contribute to research and medicine.
