Creative Science for Insect Industries

Research on advanced utilization of industrial proteins based on biomaterial production technology in insect factories and industrial utilization of insect biological resources.

Research Interests

1. Development of an efficient production system for useful proteins using silkworm-baculovirus expression system.
2. Molecular breeding of silkworm lines suitable for protein production by genome editing .
3. Search for useful insect genes and their functional analysis.

Using silkworms as experimental materials, we are engaged in the production of useful proteins by the baculovirus-silkworm expression system, molecular breeding of silkworms suitable for protein production, and exploration and functional analysis of useful insect genes by utilizing silkworm mutants. Our usual research activities are conducted jointly with the Laboratory of Insect Genomics and the Laboratory of Insect Hygiene.
