Agroecology

We are conducting the research on the characteristics related to production and quality, ecology, and labor saving in crops on sustainable and resource-cycle agricultural production. In order to solve the problems in agriculture, we are promoting in basic and applied research themes, using the fields, greenhouses, and laboratory in university farm. One of the attractive points in agroecology laboratory is that we can have research in an environment where we can closely experience the cultivation, harvesting, and cooking of agricultural products from the fields through four seasons.

Research Interests

1. Genetic improvement of seed quality and agronomic traits in soybean
2. Research on waterlogging tolerance of crops (cereals, tropical taro) under paddy and field cultivation
3. Studies on genetics and breeding in fruit trees
4. Studies on cultivation and utilization in fruit trees
5. Diversity evaluation of garlic bioresources
6. Development of new green onion materials by chromosome engineering methods

The department consists of the Crops Division and the Horticulture Division (vegetables, flowers, and fruit trees), and aims to develop environmentally friendly agriculture and material-cycle agriculture while incorporating advanced information technology. We are working on basic and applied research themes to solve problems in agriculture by utilizing the fields, greenhouses, and laboratories of the attached farm. One of the attractive points of our research is that students can experience the cultivation, harvesting, and cooking of agricultural products from season to season.
