Research Interests

1. Analysis and application of the intracellular vesicular trafficking pathway in yeast
2. Analysis of enzymes involved in the biosynthesis and degradation of galactofuranose-containing sugar chains produced by filamentous fungi
3. Development of technology for modification and analysis of glycans of biopharmaceutical glycoproteins using endoglycosidases derived from microorganisms
4. Analysis of the biosynthesis mechanism of galactose-containing sugar chains in fission yeast and elucidation of the role of pyruvinated sugar chains
5. Cell biological analysis for production of useful substances using yellow yeast

Our research focuses on yeast and filamentous fungi, which are eukaryotic microorganisms, to elucidate their diverse and versatile functions at the molecular level, and to develop microorganisms with advanced capabilities by adding new functions or analyzing and enhancing their functions using genetic engineering, protein engineering, and cell biology. In addition, we search for and isolate novel useful microorganisms from the natural world and conduct basic and fundamental research for their effective utilization.
