Research Interests

1. Development of molecular biological methods to analyze the community structure and function of soil microorganisms and environmental assessment
2. Establishment and systematization of a meta-fermentation method for conversion of valuable resources using a complex microbial system
3. Development of functional compost production by plant growth-promoting bacteria and novel microbial agriculture methods
4. New isolation methods for useful microorganisms

Research on soil environmental microorganisms and complex microbial systems is a trend in the future of microbiology. We aim to 1) assess and conserve the environment by analyzing microbial community structure, 2) recycle resources through conversion of valuable resources, 3) conserve and revitalize soil through microbial agriculture, and 4) isolate and characterize novel, difficult-to-culture microorganisms. Many soil environmental microorganisms and complex microbial systems have not yet been isolated, and their ecology, properties, and functions are unknown. By unraveling these mysteries, we expect to contribute not only to the development of academia and basic science, but also to industry, society, and environmental conservation in a wide range of fields.
