The Laboratory of Fisheries Economics conducts research and education from the perspective of resource economics on the problems unique to fisheries caused by the finiteness and uncertainty of fishery resources and the diverse interests of organizations involved in fisheries.
We mainly conduct research that helps to improve the profitability of fishermen. To improve it, we need to address problems such as supply changes due to the depleted fishery resources, consumer preferences, and the added value of products created by the uniqueness of aquacultural method. In addition, in the high seas, we need to address problems such as externalities caused by the interests of Japan and foreign governments, quota systems , and related organizations. Our laboratory is investigating the above issues using resource economics and econometric methods.
