The Laboratory of Agricultural Economics conducts education and research on contemporary agricultural economic problems and policy issues arising from the unique characteristics of agriculture and market imperfections from the perspectives of industrial organization and international trade.
Specifically, we investigate the causes of and solutions to economic disparities in agriculture. These disparities primarily result from imperfect competition, where sellers or buyers of agricultural products and materials exert significant bargaining power over prices, as well as from excessive market intervention by domestic and foreign governments. To address these disparities, fair and free competition must be achieved through an appropriate balance of market functions and policies. We explore these causes and solutions through quantitative economic analysis.
