On December 23, 2024, the Ando Foundation for Sports and Food Culture announced that Professor Takahisa Miyamoto of the Faculty of Agriculture has received the 29th ANDO Momofuku Award for Excellence from the Shokusoukai Ando Foundation. The award ceremony will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

Summary

Prof. Miyamoto developed a simple and rapid detection and identification method for various food poisoning bacteria and bacterial toxins, and scientifically verified the sanitary control of agricultural produces in the entire production process from soil to harvest. He developed an effective sterilization method for contaminated biofilms on plant surfaces, confirmed the antimicrobial activity of food additives and food ingredients such as green tea polyphenols against food poisoning bacteria, and elucidated their action mechanisms. In 2024, he established a general incorporated association, the Microorganism Control Technology Organization, and started activities to contribute to the dissemination of technology and knowledge for controlling microorganisms that cause food hazards, the development of new technologies, and the training of human resources.
His work is highly regarded for its contributions to the advancement of food science and engineering and food microbiology, and to the development of the food industry.
