Prof. Yoshizumi Ishino was elected as a "2022 Member of the American Academy of Microbiology".
Professor Yoshizumi Ishino of the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Kyushu University has been elected as this year's American Academy of Microbiology Fellow.
The American Academy of Microbiology was established in 1955 by the American Society of Microbiology (ASM) to promote the development of microbiological research and to make the results of outstanding research widely known to society. The American Academy of Microbiology was established in 1955 by the American Society of Microbiology (ASM).
Members of the American Academy of Microbiology are selected through a rigorous screening process from among scientists who have contributed to the development of the field of microbiology through outstanding and original research results.
Approximately 2,700 distinguished scientists have been elected to the Academy, and 31 scientists from Japan have been elected in the past.
*The American Society of Microbiology (ASM), founded in 1899, is the oldest society in the life sciences and has the largest membership in the world (approximately 43,000 members).
Professor Ishino specializes in basic molecular biology of Archaea (archaea) and its applications. Professor Ishino is also known as the discoverer of CRISPR (Crisper), which is applied to genome editing technology that has attracted the most attention in life science today, and has led the world from beginning to end in molecular biological research on how the genetic information of archaea is replicated and maintains its stability, a field that has not yet been explored. He has led the world from start to finish. He has also contributed to the development of PCR and related genetic engineering techniques because hyperthermophilic Archaea DNA replication factors are thermally stable. These studies have resulted in the publication of a total of 15 papers, including five at the Gordon Research Conference, in 15 countries (USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Austria, Norway, Russia, Chile, China, Korea, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Japan).
