Status of the Project Site.

Kyushu University, in collaboration with the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization, Tokyo Gakugei University, Tokyo University of Agriculture, and Hokkaido University, will launch a 'Paddy Field Methane Emission Reduction Project.' On Thursday, September 26, 2024, a commemorative ceremony for the launch of the 'Paddy Field Methane Emission Reduction Project' under the SATREPS framework was held in Phnom Penh, the capital city of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

This project targets the Damnak Ampil irrigation area in Pursat Province, where irrigation and drainage facilities have been developed through Japan's ODA. It aims to develop a broad water management method that suppresses methane emissions while maintaining rice yields, as well as a method for monitoring and evaluating greenhouse gas reduction amounts. The results of this development will be utilized in the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) to contribute to Cambodia's achievement of its self-determined greenhouse gas reduction targets (NDC3).
