[Event] Associate Professor KURITA Yoshihisa will hold events for test-tasting and trail-sales of aquacultured-turban shells.

2024.07.05 Event

The Fishery Research Laboratory of Kyushu University's Graduate School of Bioresource and Bioenvironmental Sciences collaborates with Fukutsu City and AEON Kyushu Co. to research cultured method of turban shells.

In this study, when cabbage leaves and kelp were fed to turban shells, it was found that after one month of culturing, the turban shells increased in soft body mass and in the amount of free amino acids alanine and glycine, which are sweet-tasting components. We succeeded in producing turban shells with less bitterness. We will hold a test-tasting and trial-sales event of the cultured turban shells.

  • Declining catches of marine products due to rapid changes in the marine environment are a serious problem for the fisheries. Aiming to develop a new local brand of fisheries products, the Fishery Research Laboratory of Kyushu University's Graduate School of Bioresource and Bioenvironmental Sciences teamed up with Fukutsu City and Aeon Kyushu Co.
  • When we fed cabbage leaves from Aeon Kyushu stores and discarded kelp from school lunches in Fukutsu City to turban shellfish, we found that after one month of culturing, the turban shells increased in softbody-mass and in the amounts of the free amino acids alanine and glycine, which are sweet-tasting components.
  • In order to promote the project and the taste of cultured turban shells, we will hold a tasting and test sales event (limited to 100 people, 500 yen per pack of 3 pieces).
